When you first pick up those running shoes little do you know what's waiting for you on the other side of those first 2o miles. Here's 11 things that happen when you start running...
1. All bowel movements are absolutely standard conversation with your running buddies. In fact they know more about your bowel movements than anyone ever should…
2. Taking a pee just beside the path is completely normal (and much better than trying to run whilst holding it in)
3. You become hungry beyond belief, come to think of it you can’t remember a time when you didn’t feel hungry…
4. Everyone gets to know how many miles you done this week and what your mile times were, even if they have never put their foot inside a running shoe and their eyes glazed over about 20 mintues ago when you mentioned ‘jogging’
5. You start leaving things early because ‘you need to fit in a run’ or you ‘don’t want to be up too late because you’re running the next day’. Who even am I anymore??
6. You’re constantly checking your strava to make sure it recorded your times right and to suss out the competition from your friends this week. All in good fun of course.
7. You can have a 45 minute conversation about what kind of shoes you wear, why you like them, and why they suit your feet (‘they feel like little clouds, I swear!’)
8. The people you run with become the people that support you most in life, even though you might not see them outside of running.
9. We get real with ourselves. If there’s something going on in our lives the solution is never clearer than when we’re running and if you have the pleasure of a running buddy your chat will get real. I don’t know why, maybe it’s the repetitive motion but it happens.
10. If you don’t run regularly you get grumpy. Everything just seems a little duller and harder to handle when you can’t get that running buzz. Am I right?
11. You get the bug. It’s cliché but it happens! Every chance you get you’re ‘just heading for a quick run’ or ‘just adding on an extra mile’. It’s a bit addictive!
